Natural Resources Canada
Natural Resources Canada has approximately 4,000 employees spread across the
country. While the department made significant investments in IT, employees were
still having difficulty finding the information they needed quickly and easily.
Moreover, opportunities were being lost by not being able to leverage
information resources from one part of the department to another.
We worked with NRCan
to develop and implement an Information Management (IM) Framework for the department.
The Framework established guiding principles about how NRCan views its information
resources and responsibilities for information management. It then laid out practical
policies and guidelines for employees to ensure that information is shared and treated
as a valuable corporate resource. Specifically, the results were:
- better management of information throughout its lifecycle from creation to disposition,
- improved information sharing across the department, and
- better understanding by staff and management of their roles in effective IM.
