Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission
On behalf of the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission, the Human
Rights and Citizenship Branch of Alberta Community Development handles inquiries related
to human rights issues and processes formal human rights complaints from Albertans.
Staff handle approximately 45,000 telephone calls each year and assess, conciliate
and/or investigate approximately 800 formal complaints each year.
Throughout both the inquiry and complaint process, staff must track a wide range
of information related to each individual case. They also rely on precedents from
previous cases, human rights legislation and case law.
Staff needed a way to handle
the workload and easily process inquiries while facilitating their investigation work.
The Commission also needed a method of safeguarding the privacy rights of individuals
involved in these cases.
IME helped to develop a blueprint for a web-based Case Management System to
help staff respond to inquiries, process complaints, manage workload, and report on
the work of the Commission. The new system will allow for full electronic management
of information and cases by Commission staff.
