How organizations manage what they know focuses on the capacity and
ability to generate, codify and coordinate, and transfer knowledge to improve
organizational performance.
The organizational capacity for knowledge management is dependent on changing
the way people behave, and the processes an organization uses to develop and
share knowledge. People and processes must be supported by enabling tools.
People: identifying and capturing the knowledge that has been developed by
staff through experience and creating opportunities for both formal and informal
learning.
Processes: ensuring that knowledge that is embedded in systems or
processes is made explicit and model practices are developed based on the best
knowledge in the organization.
Tools: the development and acquisition of enabling tools and integrating
these tools into business processes.
IME helps clients build this capacity by:
- using our KM Scorecard to identify opportunities for knowledge capture,
- mapping knowledge resources,
- developing model processes, and
- developing new roles for staff to support knowledge capture and sharing.
