Toronto Hydro Commission
The Toronto Hydro Commission is responsible for providing electricity and water to
Metropolitan Toronto. This utility has recently undergone internal reorganization and
changes in their external communications and corporate identity to mirror their changing
responsibilities in the new Toronto megacity. One part of Toronto Hydro’s “new look” is
a completely revised bill for both residential and business clients.
As opposed to forms that collect information, utility bills are forms that give
information, providing consumers with usage figures and service costs. IME, together
with a large working group representing various hydro departments and areas of Toronto,
provided the text content and a number of the formatting and design components of the new
bill. Consumers can now easily determine how much of a utility they’ve used and how the
cost is calculated.
