Canada Life Assurance Company
Canada Life Assurance Company, one of Canada’s largest insurance firms, developed
a new product line for small business employees. Canada Life
hired IME to develop the plain language documents that would be used to administer the
employee plans. These documents included a new standard contract, employee booklets
and plan outline.
Surveys commissioned by Canada Life had indicated that almost 75 percent of clients
evaluated the readability of previous Canada Life documents as ranging from “difficult”
to “very difficult.” Employees often did not know what they were covered for. Moreover, plan
administrators in small businesses are most often people who have little
or no experience administering insurance plans.
We designed the plain language documents
to ease the administrative burden and ensure that employees have a thorough understanding
of their benefits. The new documents proved more readable and usable as well as more
visually appealing. With a more knowledgeable clientele, Canada Life was able to
streamline the process of dealing with client enquiries and claims.
